REMOTE SENSING & CLOUD COMPUTING PLATFORMS: Exploring online tools for environmental analysis

Monday, 25 July 2022 @ Aldam Resort

The abundance of satellite imagery has created a problem for environmental analysis where huge datasets cannot be easily downloaded and stored. The concept of taking the algorithm to the data has matured and many online options are now available. Many are paid for services but there are some free alternatives which can be used for research and educational requirements.

The objective of this short course is to introduce the learner to the fundamentals of using Google Earth Engine (GEE) and the Sentinel-Hub EO Browser, how to access and analyse imagery available within the platforms and how to copy and use code written and shared by other researchers and stored in public repositories.

PRE-REQUISITES

  • A prior knowledge of remote sensing concepts and basic image analysis techniques
  • Some coding experience using JavaScript or Python (copy and paste type coding)
  • Bring your own laptop for a hands-on experience

REGISTRATION FEES

  • GSSA members | R1 380
  • Non-members | R1 660
  • Students / Retirees / Interns | R1 040

*The GSSA will be running an online workshop in June, Introduction to Remote Sensing – A Practical Guide for Rangeland Scientists. The course content will be a great introduction to the Research Skills Workshop.
